Dating from the first half of the 20th century, it bears no maker's mark. A rare find in this material and condition—a true collector's item! While we are not experts on Buddha statues, it is unlikely that this piece was made for the tourist market; given its size and weight, it is improbable that tourists would have taken such a statue home as a travel souvenir. The statue is crafted from wood, finished with a layer of linen and gesso, and hand-painted in soft pastel colors. It clearly shows its age, bearing a unique and desirable patina developed over many decades. The weathered paint, age-related surface cracks in the wood, and discoloration all contribute to the statue's unique character and condition.
