Set of four Cesca chairs, designed by Marcel Breuer in 1928 and produced by Gavina in the 1960s. An iconic example of modern design, combining experimentation with tubular steel and the use of natural materials in an essential and immediately recognisable structure. The chairs feature a cantilevered chrome-plated tubular steel frame, without conventional rear legs. This distinctive construction gives the design a sense of visual lightness and provides a gentle flexibility to the seat. The rectangular seat and backrest, with softly rounded corners, feature black lacquered wooden frames and woven cane inserts, creating a contrast between the reflective metal, the dark frames and the warm tones of the natural material. Designed in 1928, shortly after Breuer's time at the Bauhaus, the Cesca chair represents one of the most significant achievements of his exploration of tubular steel furniture. Reintroduced by Gavina in the 1960s and subsequently produced by Knoll, it brings together industrial innovation and traditional craftsmanship. Its balanced proportions and the transparency of the woven surfaces make it a versatile design, equally suited to classic and contemporary interiors. Condition: Frames in good overall condition. Two seats have minor breaks in the woven cane; one chair has a small area of missing chrome plating on the base. Dimensions: Width 46 cm – Depth 56 cm – Height 79.5 cm – Seat height 45 cm Ref.: S1076
