Elegant pair of bookends, fireplace garnitures known as cassolettes, from the late 19th century. Crafted from polished black marble, each piece features a turned lid in the shape of a bowl resting on a square base, creating a harmonious interplay between soft curves and architectural lines. Subtle decorative patterns are delicately engraved on the surfaces. Perfectly suited as bookends, candlesticks, or decorative elements on a fireplace. In good condition despite a chip under the upper plate (thus not visible) and a few minimal chips on the edges.
