Pair of bookends, fireplace garnishes known as cassolettes, late 19th century. Crafted in marble (cream veined with various shades of orange), each piece features a turned lid in the shape of a bowl resting on a square base, creating a harmonious interplay between soft curves and architectural lines. The insertion of a piece of dark marble (bottle green to black) on the base adds depth and variation, while the polished finish enhances its timeless charm. Perfectly suited as bookends, candlesticks, or decorative elements on a fireplace, these cassolettes offer versatility and symmetry. These pieces, very heavy and stable, are ideal for holding your books while adding a chic decorative touch to a library, desk, shelf, or as candlesticks, key trays... In very good condition. Only 2 feet on the underside are not original (which is invisible when they are in place). Height 17cm. Base 12.5x12.5cm. Diameter of the bowl 14cm. Weight 3.530kg.
