Hautes-Alpes (05) - The Alps - Old photo. Photographed by Marcel Thomas, Marcel Thomas, the metallurgist turned photographer to the stars. The Barre des Ecrins is a peak in the French Alps, culminating at 4,101 meters above sea level. The highest point in the Ecrins massif, the Hautes-Alpes department, and more generally in Dauphiné, it is the southernmost of the "4,000 Alpine peaks." Before the annexation of Savoy in 1860, it was the highest point in France. A small flaw on the paper, see photo. Photographer's stamp on the back.
