African mask attributed to the Chokwe people of Central Africa, carved from wood and adorned with raffia braids. The Pow mask symbolises the feminine spirit that watches over fertility. With incised patterns decorated in white kaolin, a Saint Andrew's cross on the forehead, geometric scarifications on the face, almond-shaped eyes, and a pointed nose, these features are characteristic of this type of mask originating from the Democratic Republic of Congo, used during initiation ceremonies and worn exclusively by young men. Normal wear - estimated dating between 1980-1990. A very beautiful decorative object that fits well with a wide range of interior styles.
