Hand-carved library circa 1900 in hardwood with Hermes statues.

We are delighted to offer this superb original mahogany library, hand-carved with Hermes statues and hairy lion paw feet at the base. A beautiful and well-crafted piece, rare to find with finely sculpted Hermes statues on the sides. The Hermes were used at the front of ship masts, giving a nautical theme to this piece. The feet are in hairy lion paw style from the 17th century. The shelves are all removable and/or height-adjustable, allowing for almost any book format. The library has been deeply cleaned, waxed, and hand-polished from top to bottom, and is in very good overall condition. Dimensions Height: 156.5 cm, Width: 137 cm, Depth: 41 cm. Please note that vintage and original period pieces like leather seating will always have a natural patina in the form of creases and wear. We recommend annual waxing to prevent any loss of moisture, and hand-dyed leather is not recommended for prolonged exposure to direct sunlight as it may dry out and fade.
