Gentleman posing on his bicycle. Jaipur (Rajasthan) circa 1920. Photograph taken from the original negative, hand painted in Jaipur by one of the last specialists in this practice. Limited edition of 36 copies. Photo from an old studio which opened its archives to us. The technique of the time (cumbersome wooden cameras, tripods, glass plates) as well as the climate favored studio work, mainly portraiture where Indian photographers have become masters. Throughout this selection we meet, among others, maharajahs, sadhus, courtesans, a few princesses, a cyclist, a football team, polo players, an elephant, two snake charmers... Pigment print numbered 30 x 40 cm. Made by our master printer on ultrasmooth 260g archival paper.
