Round vase in glazed ceramic signed Jean Chatoney, made around 1960 in Sausset-les-Pins, in the south of France. This piece features an elegant flattened shape with organic lines, accompanied by a nuanced glaze in olive, beige, brown, and manganese grey tones. The marbled decoration and material effects recall the major productions of the golden age of Vallauris. The minimalist style and texture evoke the creations of Ruelland or Jacques Blin. Little documented today, Jean Chatoney remains a lesser-known ceramist whose work deserves to be rediscovered. Active between 1940 and 1988 in Sausset-les-Pins, he developed a body of work combining simple forms, modernist volumes, and solid glazes, characteristic of French ceramics from the 1950s-1960s.
