Floor Lamp “Bumling” by Anders Pehrson for Ateljé Lyktan – Sweden, 1968

The Bumling needs little introduction. Designed by Anders Pehrson and launched at a lighting fair in Gothenburg in 1968, it became an instant success in Sweden and internationally — demand was so high that Ateljé Lyktan had to subcontract production to keep up. Originally produced in six sizes and a wide range of colours, the Bumling series included pendants, table lamps, wall lamps and floor lamps. It remains in production to this day, manufactured at the Ateljé Lyktan factory in Åhus, Sweden.Anders Pehrson (1912–1982) was a Swedish industrial designer and entrepreneur who took over Ateljé Lyktan in 1964, transforming it into an internationally focused lighting manufacturer. Trained as an engineer and ly a design director at Philips, Pehrson guided the company toward large-scale production while maintaining a clear design philosophy centred on what he called “good light” — glare-free, functional, and naturally integrated into modern interiors. The Bumling was his most iconic achievement, though his output at Ateljé Lyktan also included the Simris, Knubbling, Tube and Supertube series, among many others.This example is the model 609 G/J floor lamp in white, mounted on a pretzel-shaped ring base with an on/off foot switch at the base of the stem, a flexible chrome gooseneck allowing the shade to be directed as needed, and the characteristic louvred diffuser inside the shade — a component that is frequently missing on vintage examples of this model. The lamp is in honest vintage condition with honest patina consistent with its age, particularly around the base. Fully functional. Original Ateljé Lyktan label on the gooseneck fitting. E27 bulb.
