Black ceramic gargoulette – Attributed to Robert Picault (Valallauris),

Ancient gargoulette in deep black glazed ceramic with metallic reflections. Although unsigned (like much of the utilitarian production of the time), this piece exhibits all the formal characteristics, the sleek design, and the glossy black glazed finish emblematic of Robert Picault's work in Vallauris in the 1950s. A testament to the modernist table art of the Post-War period. A sculptural presence with its high handle connecting the filling neck and the pouring spout. Period: 1950s (Mid-Century) Origin: Vallauris, France. Attribution: Work attributed to Robert Picault. Colour: Glossy black with mirror-like reflections. Condition: There is a chip on the spout and some chipping underneath, the glaze has retained all its shine.
