Blue and white porcelain plate Qianlong, East India Company

Magnificent Chinese porcelain plate from the Qianlong period (1736-1796), made in Jingdezhen for the European market and the French East India Company. The central decoration, of great finesse, depicts a typical lakeside landscape of 18th-century export porcelain: tall pavilions and pagodas, twisted pines, pierced rocks, a figure with an umbrella crossing a stone bridge, all set against a backdrop of stylised mountains. The rim is highlighted by an elegant floral frieze and geometric scrolls that harmoniously frame the scene. The cobalt blue is deep and luminous, with beautiful contrasts characteristic of the period. On the reverse, an original label clearly states "Qianlong Period 1736-1796 – 'Blue and White' Porcelain." The mark, inscribed in a scroll-shaped cartouche, bears the Chinese characters "三宅" (San Zhai), a common private hall mark found on export porcelain from this non-imperial period. Diameter: 22 cm. Excellent condition – no cracks, chips, flakes, or visible restoration. Remarkable preservation of the decoration, glaze, and shape. Some very light signs of use related to age, but overall in superb display condition. This beautiful authentic piece is an excellent example of Chinese export porcelain intended for European homes and tables in the 18th century.
