Spectacular and large centrepiece bowl in Bohemian crystal by the famous glassmaker Josef Hospodka for the Sklárna Chřibská factory (Czechoslovakia, circa 1960). A true icon of Mid-Century design, this massive piece measuring 40 cm in length captivates with its elongated organic shape known as "canoe" or "gondola." It perfectly illustrates the mastery of the "sommerso" technique: a core of deep cobalt blue glass appears to float in weightlessness, captured within a thick and luminous mass of translucent crystal. The artist's virtuosity culminates in the execution of the hot-applied blue rim on the lip. This fine blue trim, stretched with tweezers around the entire perimeter, highlights the aerodynamics of the bowl and creates an elegant echo to the cobalt core. The massive base with a flat ground pontil confirms the very high quality of the craftsmanship. Ideal as a majestic centrepiece or luxurious catch-all.
