Swedish adjustable office chair Åtvidabergs in wood and metal, 1930s

Rare Swedish office chair produced by Åtvidabergs, a historic manufacturer specialised in work furniture before its integration into the Facit group. Dating from the late 1930s or early 1940s, it features particularly careful construction: a tripod base made of solid wood with curved lines, a sturdy metal mechanism, a swivelling seat adjustable in height by a large central screw, and a backrest mounted on an elegant bent wooden blade. The side wheel bears the Åtvidabergs mark in relief. The graduated mechanism, the fittings, and the small badge affixed to the base still testify to its original manufacture. The wooden structure, the joints, and the various mechanisms are in remarkable condition, with no structural defects. The chair remains stable, functional, and properly adjustable in height. The pink velvet currently covering the seat and backrest is not the original upholstery. Applied later, it has gradually discoloured due to light exposure and now presents an irregular and worn appearance. It can be replaced according to the tastes of its future owner, on a structure that remains perfectly intact. With its sculptural base, visible mechanism, and almost architectural silhouette, this chair is a beautiful example of Scandinavian industrial office furniture from the interwar period.
