Red & Blue Chair by Gerrit Thomas Rietveld – Iconic De Stijl design – Reissued by Cassina. A sculpture-chair with a pure and rational form. Designed by Gerrit Rietveld, this armchair is a manifesto of Neoplasticism, a movement promoted by De Stijl since 1917, also championed by Piet Mondrian. The goal: to reveal the essential nature of things. Harmonic balance of colours. Exclusive use of the right angle. Structure conceived as an organisation of space. Rietveld worked on the first prototypes as early as 1918. Initially monochrome (Slat Chair), the model evolved towards chromatic differentiation: The structure became black, while the supporting elements were distinguished by colour. Thus, the Red & Blue was born, becoming an absolute icon of 20th-century design. Features: • Design: Gerrit Thomas Rietveld, 1918. • Model: Red & Blue. • Cassina reissue, 1973. • Structure made of solid beech wood with a matte finish. • Seat finish in semi-gloss polyester in blue and red for the backrest. • Seat/backrest: birch plywood panel with beech veneer edges and surfaces (seat cushion can be ordered from Cassina) • Iconic colours: red, blue, black with yellow accents. Dimensions in cm: 65.5 width / 83 depth / 88 height / 33 seat. ✔ Icon of modernism. ✔ Object at the intersection of art and furniture. ✔ Architectural and graphic piece. ✔ Ideal for design collections, galleries, or contemporary interiors.
