Gerard Geytenbeek (Utrecht, 19 April 1934 – Zwijndrecht, 15 May 2008) was a Dutch furniture designer and architect, best known for his mid-century furniture designs. His work was characterised by simple, clean lines and optimal functionality, using high-quality materials such as luxury woods and leather. Geytenbeek was inspired by Gerrit Rietveld and had connections with the Institute for Industrial Design in Amsterdam. He believed that good design should be both aesthetic and practical, striving to combine both. Many of his designs were awarded prestigious design prizes. This is a beautiful round dining table designed by Gerard Geytenbeek, model Plataan. The table features a top with a striking wood grain and is supported by a unique base of cross-placed round legs, giving a sculptural and modern effect. Geytenbeek designed this table in the 1960s, and it was produced by AZS Meubelen in the Netherlands. The table has a generous diameter of 120 cm. This design was praised at the time for its functionality and aesthetics and is now a sought-after collector's item among mid-century design enthusiasts. This example is in neat and ready-to-use condition. Country of origin: The Netherlands. Manufacturer: AZS (Aart Zwijnenberg Schoonhoven) Designer: Gerard Geytenbeek. Model: Plataan. Height: 74 cm.
