We are delighted to offer for sale this magnificent and very rare pair of original Corinthian column candelabra lamps in sterling silver from 1879, signed by James Kebberling Bembridge, fully hallmarked. A very decorative and collectible pair, each marked at the base with J.K.B for James Kebberling Bembridge, the crown for Sheffield, the lion passant for sterling silver, the date letter M for 1879, and finally the profile head of Queen Victoria. The lamps are highly decorative and finely sculpted, showing signs of use as one might expect, in the form of tarnishing, dents, and slight indentations; the bases are worn at the edges. They are exactly 140 years old, and silver is a soft metal, so it is a wonder that they still exist. Completely restored with new lighting fixtures, triple conductor fabric wiring, and a new plug, they are ready for galleries. Dimensions: Height 32.5 cm, width 11 cm, depth 11 cm (measured at the widest point). Condition: wear consistent with age and use. Slight discolouration.
