Pair of Pirkka stools by Ilmari Tapiovaara for Laukaan Puu (first edition, stamped) 1950s. France, made of fir. Here is a superb pair of Pirkka stools (first edition), designed in the mid-1950s by Finnish designer Ilmari Tapiovaara for Laukaan Puu. Emblems of post-war Nordic design, the Pirkka stools blend vernacular craftsmanship with modernity: a two-part seat, slightly contoured for comfort, resting on a black-stained birch frame with very graphic "V" stretchers. Tapiovaara (1914-1999), trained under Aalto, left a mark on Finnish design with rational, robust, and warm furniture, designed for mass production without sacrificing the soul of wood. The Pirkka series (1955) draws inspiration from Finnish peasant furniture and distills its essence: simplicity, functionality, and clean lines. This example from the 1950s features a beautiful wood patina, an elegant contrast between the brown seat and black legs, and the characteristic agile silhouette of the model. Sculptural and versatile pieces, these stools work equally well around a table or as extra seating or side tables, adding an authentically Scandinavian touch to any interior. Dimensions: H 40 W 43 D 28.
