COD 11470. Antique Italian painting from the 17th century. An oil on canvas artwork depicting a biblical subject, Abraham casting out Hagar and Ishmael, of excellent pictorial quality. According to the story in Genesis, at the request of his wife Sarah, Abraham was compelled to cast out the Egyptian servant Hagar, with whom he had previously had another son named Ishmael. This was all done to prevent Isaac from having to share his father's inheritance with him. A painting of great pictorial intensity, characterised by a skillful use of chiaroscuro and remarkable quality of drapery. Large painting adorned with a carved and gilded wooden frame from the 19th century, showing some signs of aging. The painting has undergone restoration with lining, frame replacement, and colour restoration in certain areas (see photo). Overall, in good condition. Visible dimensions H 102 X W 145 cm.
