In 1963, the Danish furniture factory Haslev Møbelsnedkeri launched a series of tables designed and made by ceramicist and visual artist Tue Poulsen. Born in 1939, Poulsen was already known for his unique style, warm use of colour in his ceramics, and craftsmanship. Combined with the quality that the manufacturer usually strives for in its furniture, the result of this successful collaboration is an exceptionally beautiful series of tables. Notably, Poulsen had just graduated from vocational school and started his own studio in 1963, the year this table was created. Made of solid wood and inlaid with a large mosaic full of special shapes and beautiful colours, the whole even resembles a true work of art. The tables found their way throughout Europe and were sold in shops with a very modern, predominantly Scandinavian-oriented collection for the time. Those who dared to choose these unique tables from 1963 onwards were among the 'Moderns' and were ahead of the curve in terms of style and the latest trends. In recent years, there has been growing interest in tables with a natural stone or ceramic mosaic. Works by the Dutchman Paul Kingma and the Dane Tue Poulsen are now highly sought after internationally. This example is in exceptionally beautiful condition and comes from the first owners who bought this table new. The top and base can be transported separately, making it suitable for smaller homes or upstairs apartments. Height: 37 cm. Diameter: 117 cm.
