Earthenware vase from the Kupittaan Savi factory in Turku (Åbo), Finland, entirely hand-painted. Its round and generous body is adorned with stylised flowering branches: large cobalt blue, saffron yellow, and sienna earth petals with brown centres, attached to fine dark stems. The two sides are painted differently, one warm and dominated by ochre, the other cooler and dominated by blue, so the vase changes its mood depending on the chosen side. Terracotta and yellow bands highlight the shoulder and foot, beneath a shiny dark brown neck. Each brushstroke remains visible. Hand-signed by the decorator on the reverse, in brown slip. Alongside Arabia, Kupittaan Savi was one of the major Finnish ceramic houses, renowned for its free and bold decoration. Provenance: lot from a Swedish auction, catalogued as early 20th century. Very good vintage condition. Wear to the brown glaze on the neck, related to age. The underside shows original firing grains, traces of firing, and a small loss of glaze at the foot. No cracks or restorations noted. Please consult all photos.
