Very large Bartmann jug, Bellarmine jug in salt-glazed stoneware from the 17th century. This robust stoneware jug, with a bearded mask applied to the neck, is a so-called Bartmann baardman of the Bellarmine type, made in Germany in the early 17th century. This piece of early 17th-century European salt-glazed stoneware is about 400 years old. Likely made around Cologne or Frechen. Salt-glazed surface in warm ochre tones with visible crazing and signs of firing. The jug is adorned with a beautiful, highly detailed stamped decoration. The neck and handle are missing, creating a clean break that reveals the thickness of the body.
