Cabriolet armchair, Louis XV style – late 19th century

This cabriolet armchair in Louis XV style, made of cream-painted wood at the end of the 19th century, faithfully reflects the elegant and curved lines of mid-18th-century seating. Its curved back naturally follows the curve of the back, while the openwork arms, slightly flared and fixed in line with the backrest, are positioned set back from the seat, in accordance with cabriolet codes. The arm caps, now damaged, adorn the ends of the armrests as is customary for this type of seat. The entire chair is covered in a blue fabric adorned with a bouquet of polychrome flowers on the seat, backrest, and arm caps, adding a romantic decorative touch. The backrest and lower rail feature carvings of flowers that evoke the foliage, small flowers, or floral cascades typical of the Louis XV style. The four curved and moulded legs extend the curves of the seat in a continuous S-shape, ending in a shell-shaped scroll, known as a roquillard, characteristic of Louis XV seating.
