Large carved African head in exotic wood – Madagascar – 65 cm

Large carved wooden sculpture representing a masculine head, originating from Madagascar. A beautiful decorative piece of character, entirely hand-carved from particularly dense and heavy exotic wood. The sculpture features numerous details worked with a knife and chisel: an expressive face, finely incised beard and moustache, stylised eyebrows, hairstyle, and ears. The wood has a lovely dark brown to reddish-brown hue, with a dark and deep patina. Given its appearance, density, and origin, the wood is likely rosewood (Dalbergia), but this identification has not been subject to scientific expertise. The sculpture is particularly imposing due to its size and weight: 7.6 kg, approximately 65 cm in height and 25 cm in width. An original piece that will easily find its place in contemporary, ethnic, exotic, or eclectic decor, displayed on a piece of furniture, a console, or a bookshelf. It is in an antique condition with traces and irregularities related to the artisanal work and the wood's patina, visible in the photographs.
