Small Japanese chest made of paulownia wood (kiri), dating from the Showa period, around 1950–1970. This type of furniture was commonly used in Japanese homes to store textiles, personal items, or everyday effects. The piece features a compact structure with two upper drawers and two deeper lower drawers. Its simple design reflects the functionality and sobriety characteristic of Japanese domestic furniture from the early 20th century. It is made of paulownia wood (Paulownia spp.), known as kiri in Japan, a species highly valued for its lightness, stability, and natural resistance to moisture. The metal handles maintain their discreet and functional character. The surface shows a soft patina developed over time, with slight signs of use that testify to its history.
