Bronze ointment pot (medicinal) with brown patina. Dogon ethnic group. Period 1st half of the 20th century. Pot with tripod foot decorated with characters (ancestors), half-spiral frieze, pearl and braided ties, topped with a crocodile lid (symbol of power) carrying a genius smoking a pipe (guarantor of fertility and health). Beautiful lost wax forging work. Origin Burkina Faso. Good general condition. Dimensions: height - 34cm diameter - 22.5cm. Careful delivery. The Dogon are a people of Mali, in West Africa. They occupy the region, called Dogon country, which extends from the Bandiagara cliff to the southwest of the Niger bend. Some Dogon are settled in the north of Burkina Faso, others are settled in Ivory Coast.
