This brutalist safari chair from the 1960s stands out with its striking construction of solid wood and heavy saddle leather. The Brazilian design almost entirely dispenses with screws or glue, relying instead on visible, handcrafted mortise-and-tenon joints. Solid wooden dowels pass through the frame’s wide wooden side panels. They protrude at different lengths and support the seat. The thick cognac-brown leather forms a cantilevered sling seat, tensioned with straps and buckles. The backrest is flexibly constructed and adjusts to the angle of the sitter’s back. Details.
