This earthenware virgin is from the 18th century, no doubt about its authenticity, probably from nevers. It bears the inscription "mater dei". The virgin in childbirth is a statuette frequently found in homes from the 18th to the 19th century. On the head of the virgin, there is a hollowed-out crown at the bottom of which there is a hole two centimeters in diameter. Through this hole, one could pour holy water into the bottom of the statuette, but above all place a candle that was lit when the "labor" of the parturient began. Regarding the condition, note a crack at the bottom of the foot with a missing part, a crack on the head, firing defects, the whole remains in an acceptable general condition for an earthenware object from the 18th century. Our photos allow you to appreciate the quality of the object. For the condition, please detail the photos. Do not hesitate to zoom in. The photos are an integral part of the description. Dimensions: height: 28.5 cm width: 10.7 cm depth: 10 cm m3498.
