Antique umbertine mirror in Swiss pine, Italy, 19th century.

Large salon mirror from the late 19th century, originating from Lombardy. Made of carved Swiss pine, the shield-shaped frame is adorned with rich applied sculptures along its edges; the pediment is carved with opposing volutes from which branches with flowers and fruits grow, descending along the sides; at the centre is the sculpted face of a possible Armida with a feathered crest; a small sculpture is located in the lower band. Missing parts and restorations, including two small feet added later to the base. The entire surface is gilded with gouache.
