Brutalist Blue and White Reactive Art Glass Vase, Europe, 1970s. Striking European art glass vase produced during the 1970s, acquired in Belgium. The piece features a substantial bottle-form silhouette with a narrow cylindrical neck expanding into a broad rounded body. Its surface is characterized by a dense bubble-like and cellular decoration in layered tones of cobalt blue, turquoise, and opaque white. The pattern appears suspended within the glass itself, creating a strongly dimensional effect reminiscent of mineral inclusions, foam structures, or volcanic formations. The decoration was likely achieved through a reactive hot-worked glass process involving controlled air entrapment, fritted glass applications, and chemical surface treatments, producing irregular cratered and fluid internal textures across the entire body. The matte-satin finish enhances the sculptural quality of the piece and reinforces its Brutalist aesthetic. Although executed in glass rather than ceramic, the vase closely relates to the material experimentation and organic surface treatments associated with European Fat Lava and Brutalist decorative arts of the late 1960s and 1970s.
