Albert krussig -- self-taught german painter of the mid 20th century -- unser erzegebirge (our ore mountains) -- 1947 -- watercolour on canvas board -- signed, titled and dated in pencil on reverse of framing -- 136 × 198 mm|5 1/4 × 7 3/4 in -- 231 × 293 mm|9 × 11 1/2 in (framed size) ---- evocative, intensely-glowing view of a small farm and creek in the forests of the ore mountains, the range that have formed a natural border between bohemia and saxony for over 800 years. -- the back of the (slightly damaged) original frame bears charming labels of the period, including one which translates as ‘give pictures! Flowers pass - pictures persist’.
