This is a large and beautiful ceramic dish (or bowl) of Hungarian folk art style, dating from the mid to late 20th century. Made of glazed earthenware (majolica), this piece is characterised by a palette of bright colours (golden yellow, green, turquoise) and its decoration is inspired by Hungarian folk art traditions (such as those from Mezőtúr). A stylised bird (Madár), holding a branch or stem in its beak, a motif rich in Hungarian symbolism (symbol of life, good fortune, and rebirth). Fully adorned with stylised plant and floral motifs. ✍️ Artist Identification. The piece is a work by the renowned Hungarian ceramist, Szabó Kinga (born in 1938 in Budapest). She is famous for having modernised and elevated Hungarian folk craftsmanship. Signature on the back: The signature is engraved in the earthenware before firing.
