It was at the school of fine arts in his hometown that he made brilliant studies of painting and that following picasso, he obtained in 1933 and 1934, the silver medal (front, back), they will be only three painters to receive this distinction: picasso, clavé and mentor. Enlisted in the republican army from 1936 to 1939, mentor fled the franco dictatorship in france where he took refuge. With neige (nieves), his muse and his lifelong companion, who took him in, cared for him and avoided deportation, he settled in solliès-toucas. On a hill in this pretty village of the var, they build together, year after year, an extraordinary house, the "casa nieves" and compose for it a garden, fabulous setting, which hosts many sculptures. At the same time, mentor worked in paris in his studio in the impasse de la grange-aux-belles, (workshop now disappeared). In 1953, he won in paris, the prix du dessin, as well as the prix de la critique, and in 1966, that of the painters witnesses of their time for all of his work. In 1967, he received a series of prizes in montrouge and in 1968, for a wall decoration of 400 m² in la courneuve, made in oil and devoted to the epic theme of "the conquest of happiness", mentor is nominated "out of competition" at the prix de la critique, with a special mention awarded unanimously. In 1974, he was the only artist chosen for the inaugural exhibition of the artcurial international art center, before being the same year "ambrogino d'oro" in milan. Then, in 1976, he received the seal of this city for a fresco, the largest in europe then realized, palais cast.
