A set of two folding plia chairs, by giancarlo piretti for anonima castelli made in italy in the 1970s. The plia folding chair is an iconic piece that symbolises a new era in furniture design that focused on plastic. It was first seen at the 1967 milan furniture fair and was received so well that the chairs had to be tied to the stall with a chain - to prevent people taking them. Giancarlo piretti revolutionised the concept of the folding chair and his “3 disk pivot” system was considered genius at the time.the combination of steel and polypropylene can be found in numerous different combinations of colours and still remains a cult piece of furniture. Originally from italy. Manufactured by anonima castelli. Designed by giancarlot piretti. Circa 1970s. Made from chrome plated steel and polypropylene. The seat and backrest are a smoked brown colour and translucent. W40.5cm d40.5 h73cm sh44cm. In very good vintage condition. There are some scratches to the plastic, which can be seen in pictures as well as some wear to the chrome plated frame. These are minor and do not detract from the overall look of the chairs.
