Rare sculptural bureau by N. Boman, Turku, Finland, made in the early 1900s. The table legs are Y-shaped, in the style of Art Nouveau. The bureau has two shelves in each corner. Height of the bureau/writing desk is 78 cm. The table has an original plaque inside one of the drawers. The drawer locks are difficult to use; they are the originals and can be replaced with new ones. One drawer has cracks in the bottom. Painted black by the previous owner. The table is stable but has over a hundred years of patina, making it a charming, useful, and decorative piece of furniture art. Nikolai Boman (1845-1923) was one of the most important and influential furniture manufacturers in Finland. In 1871, he founded the steam joinery Boman (Bomans ångsnickeri) in Turku. They quickly became famous for their exceptional craftsmanship and high-quality furniture for generations. The company distinguished itself by hiring professional designers and architects early on to ensure optimal aesthetic quality. Their furniture was highly valued by the Russian aristocracy, public institutions, and bourgeois homes in independent Finland. Boman Oy became a supplier to the Swedish Court in 1927.
