Beautiful set of tableware signed Vallauris, from the pottery of the Great Oak. It consists of: 8 flat plates, 8 deep plates, 6 glasses, and a soup tureen. The plates and glasses are stamped with the embossed mark "the pottery of the Great Oak Vallauris." Model in metallic black glazed ceramic created in the 1950s. The soup tureen, although matching, does not have the pottery's mark. It is probably from a different source. The set is in good condition, although there are some cracks and signs of wear on the glaze. The design and colour, very modern for the time, fit into any type of interior and add a very decorative touch. A bit of history: The pottery of the Great Oak in Vallauris is a famous workshop established in 1948 by the ceramists Odette Gourju and her husband Ljuba Naumovitch. Located in Vallauris, a major centre for ceramics in France, this workshop takes its name from a large oak that stood in front of its premises. The workshop distinguished itself in the 1950s with its creations in glazed ceramics. The workshop closed in 1955 following the tragic death of Odette and Ljuba in an accident, ending a brief but significant period of artisanal and artistic production. Careful shipping.
