Beautiful domed travel trunk from the late 19th century, signed by the Bordeaux trunk maker J.M. Gey Aîné, successor to L. Cyprien (formerly Giral, founded in 1820), located at 19 rue Esprit-des-Lois in Bordeaux. The original manufacturer's label is intact inside the lid. It is covered in checked coated fabric, edged with painted red wooden slats, and reinforced with blackened iron corners and a brass band. It closes with two brass locks and has side handles. A railway label "Bordeaux-Saint-Jean" attests to its travels. The interior is lined with blue striped paper, featuring its original removable frame. It would make a superb coffee table, a storage chest, or a decorative piece at the foot of a bed. Condition: good used condition, as is. The structure is sound and the interior clean. There are paint chips on the slats, wear on the fabric, and a dented brass band, all signs of use that add to its charm. Dimensions: L 90 X D 65 X H 70 cm.
