Jean Miotte (1926 - 2016) Abstract composition. Colour lithograph. Signed in pencil at the bottom right and numbered 38/120 at the bottom left. Jean Miotte is a major French painter of the post-war period, associated with the movement of lyrical abstraction and informal art. Born in Paris in 1926, he developed a body of work from the 1950s based on gesture, movement, and the energy of line. Influenced by dance, jazz, and the vast American landscapes he discovered in the early 1960s, he created spontaneous and rhythmic paintings, where colour and gesture convey a true inner tension. Close to figures like Sam Francis, Mark Rothko, and Alexander Calder, Jean Miotte quickly gained international recognition and exhibited in numerous museums in Europe and the United States, notably at the Musée d'Art Moderne in Paris, the Guggenheim Museum, and MoMA in New York. His work, at the intersection of lyrical abstraction, tachisme, and action painting, remains one of the most free and dynamic expressions of 20th-century French abstract painting. Period: Probably around 1990. Technique: Lithograph, signed and numbered. Dimensions (sight): Height 73.5 cm - Length 53.5 cm. Dimensions with frame: Height 92 cm - Length 72 cm. Condition: The edges are yellowed and the frame is slightly worn.
