These stunning crystal stem glasses have an old-fashioned and refined style. They feature a rich engraved or wheel-cut decoration, composed of delicate geometric friezes, including Greek-style bands (meanders) and scalloped or chevron registers at the top and bottom of the bowl. The rim is flared and straight, resting on a characteristic baluster foot with prominent rings and bands, typical of the late 19th or early 20th century; often associated with productions from style or major French crystal manufacturers like Baccarat or Saint-Louis. The glass exhibits the transparency, brilliance, and clarity characteristic of antique crystal. Made before 1936, these glasses generally do not bear an engraved stamp on the glass or the base (Baccarat/Saint-Louis pieces previously had simple paper labels that have since disappeared). This is from the Art Deco period; approximate production between 1880 and 1915. The cut baluster foot: The molded rings and the central knot on the stem of the glass are very characteristic of Napoleon III and Belle Époque productions. The acid or wheel-engraved decoration: The geometric motifs in bands (meander/Greek friezes and scalloped registers) were particularly popular in the late 1800s and foreshadow the transition to the geometric forms of Art Deco.
