Large and heavy vintage ceramic vase by Scheurich Keramik, West Germany, model 263-31, dating from the 1960s. The vase has a tall, architectural rectangular form with softly rounded corners and a narrow rectangular opening. Its four sides are covered in an intricate three-dimensional relief of radiating starbursts, small celestial forms, and geometric motifs, characteristic of Scheurich's Kosmos decor, also known as the Sputnik pattern. The deep cobalt-blue glaze gives the relief considerable depth, with the raised elements catching the light against the darker recessed areas. The result is a particularly tactile surface with a strong Space Age character, while the restrained architectural shape keeps the piece elegant rather than overtly futuristic. The model is marked “263-31 W. GERMANY” on the underside. The 263 series is documented as part of Scheurich's Kosmos production of the 1960s. A substantial piece of West German mid-century ceramic design, particularly effective displayed on its own. Condition: Great vintage condition, with minor signs of age and use. Please refer to the photographs. Measurements: 30.5 cm H × 14.5 cm W × 11 cm D 12 in H × 5.7 in W × 4.3 in D.
