This unique armchair was produced by KNICOS, the furniture factory of Firma Knigge & Co. from Stadskanaal. The company was founded in 1919 and grew into an important Dutch furniture manufacturer, especially known for solidly made seating furniture. After the war, tastes changed quickly. Traditional, sturdy Dutch furniture increasingly made way for lighter and more modern designs from Scandinavia. This armchair demonstrates that KNICOS did not completely overlook this development. With its slender teak frame, elegantly shaped armrests that extend into the legs, high lightly reclining backrest and flowing lines, the design has a clear Scandinavian appearance. Our example has been completely restored in our own workshop. The teak woodwork has been completely restored and refinished. The filling and upholstery have also been renewed, while maintaining the original shape and characteristic proportions. A first-class furniture fabric, type GREENLAND from the company Switch in a beautiful yellow/black mélange, was chosen. An exceptional example of furniture made by a Dutch manufacturer who did see the Scandinavian zeitgeist coming but ultimately could not make this shift on the same scale as some of his contemporaries. The armchair is immediately usable and has been brought to a condition that is virtually better than new. We have 2 units in Teak with yellow upholstery in stock. Price is per piece.
