19th century gilded wood mirror Maison Goupil & Cie. Gilded with gold leaf / new mirror Maison Goupil & Cie was an art publishing and trading company founded in 1827 by Henry Rittner and renamed Goupil & Cie in 1829. It was based in Paris and played a major role in the 19th-century art market. The house was known for its reproductions of works of art, its prints and engravings, as well as for the sale of original paintings and framing. It worked with many famous artists of the time and contributed to the dissemination of art throughout Europe and America. The company also published art catalogs and organized exhibitions. Note an unfortunate restoration on the lower edge of the frame. Height 62 cm. Width 44.7 cm. Depth 6.5 cm. I am attaching 2 photos (last 2 photos) of the back of the frame as it was and indicating its provenance.
