Gio Ponti Table D.859.1 Reissue 2023 Molteni in black ash wood

In 1958, Gio Ponti was commissioned to design the auditorium of the Time & Life Building, located at 1271 Avenue of the Americas in New York. The building housed the headquarters of Time Inc., publisher of iconic magazines that have marked the history of the press, such as Time, Life, Fortune, People, and Sports Illustrated. It was the most prestigious project undertaken by Ponti in New York. Originally designed as a meeting table accommodating up to ten people, the D.859.1 stands out among the auditorium furniture not only for its impressive dimensions but also for the refined simplicity of its design. Its legs, with a delicately modern style, evoke a trapezoidal single-beam bridge on which rests a large tapered top, whose lines suggest aerodynamics. In black-stained ash, this reissue of the D.859.1 measures 280 cm in length and a maximum of 100 cm in width.
