This piece showcases superb painting and scarification work, executed with astonishing complexity to create an abstract pattern unique to Austruy's imagination. The iron base, of remarkable design, adds to the overall beauty. Please note that this piece shows some minor signs of use, which tell its story. AUSTRUY Jean. 1910 – 2012. Jean Austruy, born in Castres in 1910, graduated from the School of Decorative Arts and the Fine Arts of Paris (sculpture). He settled in Saint-Marcellin in Isère and taught drawing for nine years in this city, as well as drawing, modelling, and decoration at the School of Fine Arts and Industrial Arts in Grenoble. At the same time, he began ceramics. Initially in his garage, then in a workshop he built in 1947 to increase his production, as demand was high after the war. His wife Jacqueline, who also attended the Fine Arts, helped him with his production and managed their four children. They hired employees and focused on the quality of their production. In 1966, the family business expanded with their son Yves, who contributed to developing production while remaining true to their commitment to quality and aesthetics. Stoneware made its appearance around the 1970s. Jean Austruy retired in 1990 and could finally devote himself to his passion: animal sculpture, in ceramic or bronze. Jean Austruy passed away peacefully on 25 November 2012 after his 102nd birthday.
