Sculpture "Héraclès" In gold leaf on green sea marble. MARCEL DEBUT (1865-1933) 64 cm 12 kilos. HISTORY The myth: The action would have involved the eagle sent by Zeus to devour the liver of Prometheus, who was chained, and how Héraclès came to shoot the eagle with one of his arrows. In order for Zeus to free him from his chains, Prometheus reveals his secret: from a union with Thetis the Nereid, a son will be born who is more powerful than his father, and who would therefore be capable of overthrowing Zeus if he were the father.
