On the lithograph, we note small stains and white spots (lack of ink), and a slight waviness at the top. The lithograph is very fresh in colour; once framed, most of the defects will be less visible. Sold as presented. Henri Rivière (1864-1951) was a French painter, engraver, and illustrator. He began his career with drawing, then moved to soft-ground etching, specifically etching in 1882. At the same time, he started a career as a director and set designer in 1886, for shadow theatre at the Chat Noir cabaret, enhancing performances with innovative coloured sets. He then dedicated himself exclusively to painting and engraving, making a mark in the history of etching, printmaking, wood engraving, lithography, and watercolour (he painted around a thousand watercolours).
