Mid-Century Bedside Tables from White & Newton, United Kingdom, 1960s, Set of 2

This pair of bedside tables was manufactured by the British furniture maker White & Newton in Portsmouth during the 1960s. The pieces represent the British Mid-Century Modern design characteristic of the period, combining a distinctive form with practical functionality. Each bedside table features a drawer in the upper section and a cabinet below, providing practical storage space. Distinctive design details include the fluted drawer fronts and sculpted wooden handles, which give the pieces their unique character. The bedside tables are crafted from mahogany and rosewood veneer, with the striking natural grain of the rosewood particularly prominent on the fronts and tops. The pieces are raised on slender tapered legs, emphasizing their light and elegant proportions. The bedside tables have undergone comprehensive woodworking restoration. The wooden elements were stripped of the old coating and finished with high-quality Danish oil, which protects the surface while enhancing the natural grain and rich tones of the wood.
