Charming slender and distinguished kokeshi doll, handmade by the famous artist miyajima muhitsu (1929- ). Miyajima was born in yonezawa city, yamagata prefecture, japan, where many traditional kokeshi makers live. He began his career under the tutelage of master craftsman yamagata kobayashi, kichitaro, between the mid and late 40s, then switched to making creative dolls in the 1950s. His dolls had a great influence on the creative kokeshi movement, (sosaku). He has won numerous awards for these creations, including the prestigious prime minister's award in 1973. This one is named "hanagokoro" which means "spirit of flowers". It depicts a woman wearing a kimono decorated with cherry blossom. In the japanese tradition, the cherry blossom (sakura) is one of the most appreciated flowers: it represents spring and symbolizes the beginning. It is therefore particularly suitable for those who are about to embark on a new path of life. Handmade in the years 1975, the asymmetry of this hair gives it an extremely refined touch. Major symbols of japanese craftsmanship, kokeshi are unique creations. They are highly valued for their historical origins and cultural association. All these kokeshi have a history, they are a small piece of memory, bought as a souvenir of a trip, offered as a gift, all are the witness of a japanese art of living! 🌸 height: 21 cm. ⛩️ good condition for his age. Some small brands. Signature of the artist at the base of the kokeshi.
