Before the democratization of photography, this kind of portrait was found in almost every house. But rarely executed by such a talented draftsman. This lady was, according to the family's estimates, sketched around 1847. In gouache, on cardboard. And framed in a blackened wooden napoleon 3 frame circled with brass with a chiseled edge. This lady, a face among the faces of humans who once lived here below, has a severe air that is softened by a slight smile and a sparkle in the eyes. The delicacy of the features is quite remarkable, in the features (note the beauty spot on the right cheek) or in the clothes. It looks quite like a traditional breton outfit, but I am not well-versed in the subject. Beyond the quality of the work, there is something touching and sometimes even quite melancholic in these forgotten faces. On the back, the drawing is protected by a beautiful endpaper printed in shades of blue. The set is in excellent condition, ready to hang. Frame: 19 X 19cm. Frame: 12cm diameter.
