Nils Thorsson joined Royal Copenhagen as an apprentice in 1912 and graduated from the Royal Danish Academy in 1917. From 1949, he was the artistic director at Royal Copenhagen and also served as the artistic director of Alumina from 1928 to 1969. He was the originator of the four largest collections of Danish ceramics: SOLBERG from 1930, MARSELIS from 1950, TENERA from 1960, and BACA from 1964. He also produced many lesser-known and rarer art pieces in enamels. His works from the 1950s to the 1970s are very popular pieces from Royal Copenhagen, now considered excellent examples of Scandinavian modernism. The motifs and designs of Nils Thorsson range from abstraction to naturalism, including geometric patterns. Many appreciate the BACA range by Nils Thorsson for the precision and complexity of these motifs. Baca ashtray model 719 / 2883.
